For far too long, we have paid little attention to the hours we spend sitting all day in cheap office chairs. To make matters worse, the innovation in the office chair space has been pretty static. There is so much more to experience than what we have settled for, and at Anthros, we are determined to change the way you see the value of your posture and your sit.
Your health is one of your greatest assets. Did you know that your very well-being depends on the quality of your sit? That may seem like a weighty statement. But the evidence is out there. Sitting poorly and uncomfortably for hours on end is damaging. Anthros aims to change all that. We have studied the human body and understand the recipe of what is needed to sit comfortably and optimally. That is one reason our scientifically-backed chair design includes so many unique features to suit your working habits and preferences.
One unique aspect of our Anthros chair design is our tilt or "Decompress Mode", and it was crafted with your body’s needs in mind. Whether you are locked in for focus, using the upright or 5° tilt for optimal pelvis support, or unlocking for a quick stretch, each setting plays an important role in your sitting experience. In any of these positions, it’s important to note that our Decompress Mode HOLDS your best posture.
Not all chairs are made the same. Not all chairs are designed to help and hold your good posture. Many office chairs offer a RECLINING mechanism instead of a TILT mechanism. What’s the difference?
Reclining chairs can help alleviate the gravitational force that constantly tugs at your spine. By leaning back in a reclining chair, you distribute the weight more evenly across your back. Unfortunately, when you recline or lean back in a chair, your pelvis naturally shifts, causing your spine to assume a curved, C-shaped form. This curve can translate into excessive pressure on your spine, causing discomfort and back pain.
Anthros has a better solution - the tilting office chair. The tilt feature enables both the seat and the backrest to MOVE IN UNISON. The magic happens when you start with a proper, upright seated posture and then engage the tilt function. When you tilt backward, your spine maintains its natural curve, preserving good posture without any tucking or distortion!
This feature is designed to help you maintain optimal posture while also being able to shift positions, removing the effects of gravity during a long workday. Our tilt feature is lockable and adjustable:
To lock or unlock the tilt mechanism, turn the control knob on the lower front left of the chair.
Using the front right control knob, release the tilt tension by rotating it backward. You can adjust the tension until the movement feels smooth and supportive.
What It Is:
A controlled, adjustable free-floating tilt that allows your body to hover naturally between upright and halfway tilted.
What It Does for Your Body:
Promotes micro-movement, which improves circulation and reduces stiffness.
Lightly unloads spinal discs without affecting head alignment relative to the monitor.
Reduces the cumulative effects of gravity by sharing load through more of the backrest.
Prevents fatigue associated with staying fully upright all day.
Best For:
✔ Long work sessions
✔ People who like dynamic movement
✔ Reducing end-of-day back fatigue
✔ Maintaining alert posture without rigidity
This is the most functional tilt mode for all-day computer work.
What It Is:
The deepest tilt available achieved by keeping the tilt unlocked and loosening the tension until you settle into the complete 16° tilt.
What It Does for Your Body:
Provides the greatest spinal decompression and extension.
Helps reset the spine between work sessions.
Relieves sustained loading on the lumbar discs.
Best For:
✔ Stretch breaks
✔ Phone calls
✔ Mid-day resets
✔ Recovery between meetings
Because of the natural forward-head shift at this angle, it’s not recommended for computer work. But it is incredible for relaxation and spinal relief.
What It Is:
A slight forward tilt that supports an upright, engaged posture.
What It Does for Your Body:
Helps keep the pelvis neutral and stable during focused tasks.
Ideal for individuals who tend to lean forward while working.
Reduces the tendency to slump during detailed work.
Best For:
✔ High-focus activities
✔ Precision tasks
✔ Upright sitters who prefer minimum recline
4. Standard Mode (1°)
What It Is:
The default position your chair ships in and offers a balanced, neutral upright posture.
What It Does for Your Body:
Supports an aligned spine without forcing you forward or backward.
Provides a centered, grounded feel that works for the majority of daily tasks.
Reduces undue back fatigue compared to completely vertical seating.
Best For:
✔ Everyday use
✔ Short to moderate sitting periods
✔ Users who want a familiar, “traditional” sitting feel
5. Decompress Mode (5°)
What It Is:
A gentle reclined working posture that offers meaningful unloading of spinal pressure while keeping your head in an ideal work-aligned position.
What It Does for Your Body:
Reduces gravitational load and disc pressure.
Maintains neutral head alignment with the monitor — unlike traditional recline.
Helps prevent low-back strain during long blocks of desk work.
Provides a “weightless” feel without collapsing the spine.
Best For:
✔ All-day computer work
✔ People who experience fatigue from sitting upright
✔ Those who want relief without disengaging from their tasks
For prolonged work sessions, Anthros recommends alternating between:
Free-Float Decompress Mode
5° Decompress Mode (Locked)
These two positions offer the ideal combination of:
✓ Spinal unloading
✓ Posture preservation
✓ Monitor alignment
✓ Reduced fatigue
✓ Dynamic comfort
