Precision Posture System

The reason most ergonomic chairs still leave you in pain: they treat your back as one piece. It’s not.

Anthros uses a patented adjustable two-part back system that supports the pelvis and upper back independently. The lower section stabilizes your pelvis — the foundation of your entire seated posture. The upper section promotes an upright position that reduces strain on your neck, shoulders, and lower back. Together, they adapt to your body rather than forcing your body to adapt to the chair. This approach comes directly from wheelchair seating biomechanics, where supporting the pelvis and upper back as separate structures isn’t optional — it’s essential.

Decompress Mode

You weren’t designed to sit in one position for 8 hours. Your chair shouldn’t force you to.

Five posture-preserving tilt positions let you shift, recline, and recharge throughout the day without giving up spinal alignment. Three locked positions provide stable support for focused work. Two unlocked positions move naturally with your body for breaks, calls, or thinking time. Every position maintains the posture your back needs — because the tilt mechanism was designed around how the spine actually behaves under load, not just how far back a chair can lean.

Tapered Upper Back System

Rounded shoulders and forward head posture start with a back pad that’s too wide. Ours tapers on purpose.

The upper back support adjusts to meet your mid and upper back, promoting the upright posture that prevents neck and shoulder pain. The tapered shape is intentional: it allows your shoulders to pull back naturally while working, keeping you in the active, engaged position that protects your cervical spine during long sessions at a desk. This detail comes from studying how scapular retraction works in a seated position — something most chair designers never consider because they’re starting from aesthetics, not anatomy.

Lower Back Pelvis Support

Every chair company talks about “lumbar support.” We skip the lumbar and go straight to the source: your pelvis.

The patented lower back pelvis support captures and stabilizes the pelvis — the structural foundation of your entire spine. When the pelvis is in the right position, the natural lumbar curve follows automatically. Your postural muscles can relax instead of working overtime to compensate for a seat that lets you slouch. This is the core principle that Anthros inventor Steve Dufresne learned as VP of Product Development at the world’s largest wheelchair company and from studying under world-leading biomechanics authorities, including Bengt Engström, who wrote foundational work on the science of seated posture. In wheelchair seating, getting the pelvis right is everything. We applied that same principle here.

Contoured Seat Cushion

The seat cushion in most chairs creates pressure hotspots on your sit bones. Ours was designed to eliminate them.

The contoured premium foam cushion features patented pressure-relieving cutouts that displace pressure away from the sit bones — the primary source of seated discomfort. The result is significantly greater pressure distribution when sitting upright, reducing pain and improving stability during long work sessions. Combined with CloudTex® and CloudFloat® technologies, the cushion delivers a cloud-like feel without sacrificing the support structure underneath. The cutout geometry wasn’t guesswork — it was informed by pressure mapping data and refined with clinical input from licensed Physical and Occupational Therapists.

4D Arm Supports

Shoulder and neck tension often start at your arms. If your armrests don’t adjust in every direction, your upper body pays for it.

Cushioned 4D arm supports adjust for height, width, depth, and angle to match your exact working posture. Whether you’re typing, mousing, reading, or on a call, the arms position to offload weight from your shoulders and keep your upper trapezius muscles from tensing. Proper arm positioning also reduces wrist strain and supports neutral forearm alignment — details that compound over an 8-hour day.

Seat Height Adjustment

The wheels under your chair shouldn’t be an afterthought. They affect how you sit, move, and feel.

Anthros recommends setting seat height relative to your workspace first, not your feet. Proper desk-to-elbow alignment determines your seat height. For those 5’6” and under, we include a footrest to maintain parallel leg position and optimal foot support at the correct workspace height. This approach prevents the cascading posture problems that start when seat height is set incorrectly — and it’s one of the first things our licensed therapists walk you through during your free posture consultation.

4-Spoke +
5-Spoke Base

The wheels under your chair shouldn’t be an afterthought. They affect how you sit, move, and feel.

The 4-spoke non-swivel base eliminates caster interference with your feet, moves smoothly as a unit, and reduces bruised ankles and scuffed shoes — while adding a clean design line to your setup. The 5-spoke swivel base provides traditional 360-degree mobility for those who prefer it. Both options use smooth-rolling casters built for hard floors and carpet alike.
