Is the most expensive gaming chair worth it?

In recent years, gaming chairs have become increasingly popular among gamers and office workers alike.

With their flashy designs and features like a tall backrest, a lumbar pillow, and a recline feature, gaming chairs may seem like an attractive option for those looking for a comfortable and supportive seating experience.

However, the reality is that expensive gaming chairs are not worth the investment, as they all suffer from the same fundamental design flaws that can cause long-term harm to the body.

1

Tall, wide backrest- This type of backrest actually causes the shoulders to round forward encouraging a slouched posture with forward head. This posture can put strain on the neck and back muscles, leading to discomfort and pain over time.

2

Lumbar support- Generally speaking, lumbar supports do not support the body in the right place to promote an upright posture. The angle of the pelvis determines the position of the spine, so support should be provided to the pelvis. And most lumbar supports in gaming chairs are simply a pillow, which fail to prevent the pelvis from tilting backward which results in a slouched posture.

Cheap foam seats- When you dig a little into the construction of many gaming chair seats, you’ll find that many are made with cheap foam. They offer little support and can break down quickly, causing the user to sink and sit uncomfortably over time. This results in fidgeting, frequent repositioning, and often slouching.

4

Recline- The recline feature in gaming chairs is also problematic as it causes the pelvis to roll back resulting in the user sliding forward and ending up in a reclined slouched position.

Ultimately, expensive gaming chairs are mostly about the look. When considering a gaming chair, buyers should be wary of the attractive designs and features and think twice about the consequences they may have on their body in the long run. Instead, investing in a chair with an adjustable tapered backrest with pelvis support, a high-quality contoured foam seat, and tilt instead of recline is a much better option to ensure comfort and longevity.
